Renee is a long time collaborator of Tabulit Comics. So let’s just say that she’s one of the OG crew. She’s witty, is oozing talent, and also just happens to be a cat lover. So I thought she was perfect for the book. Here she is, Renee Liang.
First of all, cats or dogs? (or both?) Any particular reasons why?
I’m a die-hard future cat lady. I planned my entire future around cats. I want to get a new cat every year to track how long I live for. Don’t get me wrong, I like certain dogs, but CATS ARE LIQUID. And I kind of like the “you have to earn my love” attitude they have going on. I can go for hours on why I’m obsessed with cats, but this is just a quick glimpse into my bag of crazy.
What’s the inspiration behind your work in Furr 2?
My cat doesn’t make it a secret that she hates me. I can’t fathom why—I’m a delight. Probably because she knows I love her, hence she can get away with anything. Anyways, I thought to make a piece from her POV so I can apply human logic onto her strange actions and make sense of the insanity.
What quirks or peculiarities does your pet have that you won’t find in other cats/dogs?
“She’s not like the other cats”, except she definitely is. My cat is such a brat, she’ll give me intense attitude 90% of the time because she knows she’s the princess of the house. But she’s also a huge scaredy cat, and hides whenever anybody comes over. When she’s scared she gets really “sticky” and latches on to you, being all sweet. Honestly, such a master manipulator, I’m being played here.
Which animal describes you better, a dog or a cat?
I think maybe it’s a mix of both. I want to be aloof like a cat, but I feel like I’m too high strung. So probably a dog, but I sure hope I don’t smell like one. There’s nothing worse than dog breath.
If you could either be a cat or a dog for a day, which would you choose, and what would you do?
Definitely a cat. Imagine being that level of flexible?? And sleeping anywhere? ALSO THE MASSAGES. Okay okay, have you noticed how people touch dogs and cats differently? With dogs, it’s always aggressive rubbing, while they say “who’s a good boy” in a husky tone. With cats, they pet them so gently, and speak so quietly. I feel like it’ll just feel better to be pet as a cat.
Which would you vote for president? A dog or a cat? And why?
Oh my goodness, I’d want neither. You can’t have a president that’s too soft and people pleasing. You just know those guys are full of empty promises and broken dreams. But cats grudge FOREVER. That’s some cold war crap waiting to happen.
Let’s say Furr 3 happens (crossing fingers). Other than dogs and cats, what other kind of stories about animals do you think we should try to include?
How about humans? I have plenty of people stories I’m just aching to get out there! (Actual animals though, I hear birds are dicks. And bird people are always very enthusiastic to share.)
