We recently launched a new book project called Furr 2. An anthology of stories about artists and their cats and dogs, with illustrations and comics from over 20 artists. Today, we’re in conversation with Dani Elizondo. She is from Monterrey, México and now studying Animation at Sheridan. She’s going to be drawing ‘Wanted’ in the upcoming book.
First of all, cats or dogs? (or both?) Any particular reasons why?
DOGS!!! I like cats as well (I have one, we call him Catbutt), but there is just something so noble and lovable about dogs, that I cannot explain. Everytime I see a dog while i’m out and about, I definitely take notice of it immediately. I have a very strong dog radar.
What’s the inspiration behind your work in Furr 2?
Street dogs and cats that are taken to an animal shelter (or the pound), and are hoping for a home.
What quirks or peculiarities does your pet have that you won’t find in other cats/dogs?
WELL, my cat comes when you whistle. He grew up with other dogs so I keep feeling like he’s half dog.
Which animal describes you better, a dog or a cat?
A dog for sure! I go around seeking everyone’s love and validation. But I also don’t really need it/expect it to be able to give love and validation to other peeps? I’m weird.
If you could either be a cat or a dog for a day, which would you choose, and what would you do?
A dog, 110%. I’d just run in a huge field or meadow, for funs.
Which would you vote for president? A dog or a cat? And why?
Oh. Um. Well politics get really messy really fast. I feel like a dog would do good, but probably a cat would do best. In the end, we probably need a bird president, to be honest.
Let’s say Furr 3 happens (crossing fingers). Other than dogs and cats, what other kind of stories about animals do you think we should try to include?
Lots of people have birds! So probably those? But uh, I’m not really sure. People also have bunnies and fish pets. Though, maybe something more general that has all of those would be cool? Not sure if those have fur, but ahaha we’ll make do!
